Niger

Since 2012, Niger has been heavily impacted by conflict and population displacement on its borders with Mali, Nigeria and Chad. This instability has strained an already fragile humanitarian situation and the country remains prone to food crises resulting in food insecurity and malnutrition. REACH was first deployed to Niger in 2012 when worsening violence in the north of Mali led 50,000 Malian refugees and Nigeriens to flee to the Tillabéri region in western Niger. Together with UNHCR, REACH launched mapping programs in displacement camps and later REACH operations expanded to the southeastern Diffa region, and to areas of Niger hosting migrants transiting towards North Africa and Europe.
