First deployed as Information Management surge capacity for the Shelter Cluster in Mali in November 2012, REACH has since provided assessment support, basic service mapping, flood and vulnerability analysis to support the IDP response. 

2019: The population of the border zone between Niger, Mali and Burkina Faso (the Liptako-Gourma region) is affected by the consequences of inter-communal conflicts linked to socio-economic challenges and access to scarce resources, such as land and water, since 2012. These conflicts have been exploited by armed groups, causing the displacement of more than 235 000 people in the region as of March 2019

REACH is a joint initiative of two international non-governmental organisations, ACTED and IMPACT Initiatives,  and  the  United  Nations Operational  Satellite Applications  Programme (UNOSAT). REACH was created in 2010 to facilitate the development of information  tools and  products that  enhance the  capacity  of aid actors  to make  evidence-based decisions in emergency, recovery and development contexts.
